This is a university project where I was told to create an A5 catalogue and a 1500 word essay exploring place, value and artefact. I decided to do something different and took an experimental approach towards this book. The cover was made by using the Frottage printing method. The book was then french folded and hand binded.

Face me
After reading Pentagram’s ‘Face to Face’ book, I decided to have a go at creating my own version. The book was folded out of one whole A3 sized paper so that the maximum amount of images could be six. I then experimented with the cover by using cardboard and then writing the title with PVA glue in order to have a hand made feel.

String Alphabet
I created this typeface by placing strings onto a flatbed scanner and then editing it further on Illustrator. The reason why I used strings was because no two letters could be the same; each letter has a different look and feel to it.

Hand Made Photographic Prints
This is the first time that I have printed by hand on photographic paper. The camera that I had used was the Pentax K1000, which is a fully manual camera. Although the shots are not as sharp as I had hoped, it was still a good experience using a manual camera and printing by hand.
